Five Easy Steps To Assembling Wedding Invitations

If you want them to present well to your guests, make sure you assemble your wedding invitations correctly before sealing them into the envelopes to mail.  Whether your invitations are simple and elegant are traditional with a few extra enclosures, there is still a traditional format for placing them into the envelope.

Now, before you start to assemble your invitations, be sure you have all of the enclosures to the invitation together so you don’t forget anything.  Your enclosures may be directions to the ceremony location with additional directions to the reception, or local hotels or inns for your out of town guests. Other optional pieces could include:

The Inner Envelope
Strictly an optional piece and used mostly with very formal invitations, an inner envelope is used for presentation only to keep the invitation and any extra enclosures neatly in one place for your guests.

If your invitations are from a kit purchased at an office supply store or bought online, or if you’ve printed your own from a template, you may only have one envelope, the one to mail everything in.  You can always use that as the inner envelope and purchase larger, outer envelopes separately.

Response Cards or RSVPs
RSVPs have their own little envelopes which should be pre-addressed and pre-stamped for your guests so they aren’t required to pay the postage to send the RSVP back to you.

Before assembling your wedding invitations, make sure you have everything together, including any enclosures.  This will help you avoid the possibility of leaving something out of the mailing:

* Outer or mailing envelope that will get addressed and stamped

* Optional Inner envelope

* RSVPs with envelopes, pre-stamped and pre-addressed

* Reception card or directions to the reception

* Any additional pieces you’re including like hotel accommodations or directions to the ceremony location for out of town guests

* Optional tissue paper; this is more for appearance and only used for more formal invitations

Once you have everything you need, assembling your wedding invitations is really as simple as stacking the pieces in order and putting them into the envelope or envelopes:

1. The Invitation: The most important piece, is placed face up with the optional tissue paper placed on top

2. The RSVP or Response card and envelope is placed on top of the tissue paper or the invitation

3. Additional enclosures like directions, hotels, etc., are placed on top of the RSVP.

4. If you’re using an inner envelope, insert the above pieces into the inner envelope with the printed sides up; folded edges of the cards go into the envelope first.  Place this envelope into the Outer or Mailingenvelope, handwritten guest’s facing up.  When your guest opens the outer envelope, the front of the inner envelope with their names written on it will be what they see first.

5. If you aren’t using an inner envelope, place everything in the above order, printed sides up, directly into the mailing envelope.
