Do I really need a liner mat for my pool steps?

I just bought pool steps like these..

and I was wondering if I need a mat to protect my liner from the stairs or not.

the mat will definitely make your life easier in the long run. If you put those in without the mat, you’re going to get the infamous yellow/brownish lines around the rim of your steps on the pool floor.
