Digital Camera? Replacement vs. Fixing it?
I have a Kodak camera currently, the V803 model. It broke a few weeks ago. The lens/ outer part [that comes out when your turn it on] is stuck in the position it moves out to in the on position, and the lens is left open. When I turn it on, the light light up like they are supposed to, and the beginning Kodak Easy Share shows up on the screen, but right after that is goes black. It is charged and everything, and I did not drop it or get it wet or anything right before it broke.
My question is – is it worth it to get it fixed? [This is the third time I have had to send it back on a year and a half.] And if I did, how long would it take to get it back to me? How much would it cost?
If I just purchased a new camera, do you have any suggestions? I need one that isn’t too expensive [around $100], and has good zoom and quality of pictures and videos.

Most cameras are repairable, but the price is what makes it worth doing or not. Kodak is going to quote you $150-200 for the repair, and you won’t find anybody else who can do it for you, they will just send it to Kodak themselves and charge you more than Kodak would directly.
If you know somebody who is handy, you can buy a defective V803 on ebay and make one good camera from the two; it’s not hard, and will probably be fairly cheap.
If you can’t fix it yourself, you will probably have to sell it online for money towards a new one. I wish I could help with the repair, but we cannot get Kodak lenses (I own a digital camera repair business).
As for a new camera, $100 isn’t going to get you much sorry to say, but I think for slightly more you can get a Canon A480, A590 (as somebody else here mentioned) or maybe an A1000 IS.
