Does a mock vac really work?
I bought a new filter with UV and my water in my pond is green.
I can see so far down but it looks like the bottom of the pond is green. Will a muck vac work on this
Removing the mulm form the bottom will indirectly help by removing decaying debris that will add to the nitrate and sometimes to the phosphate levels of your pond. This will in turn aid in lagae control by removing at least some nutrients from the water column.
That said, a Veggie Filter will do much more for this (or at least would be a good additon to this).

The UV you purchased can be very useful at clearing a green pond if properly installed. However form my experience (I have even designed UV Systems), UV Sterilizers that come built into the filters are usually not nearly as effective as seperate UV Units as you can not control the flow (which should be between 20-40 gph per watt) and/or they do not have good contact and/or the flow pattern is very poor.
Here are a few more steps you can do (besides the Veggie Filter and UV Sterilizer):
* Barley Pellets or straw; place in the filter or water column this will control algae by virtue of the iodine contained there in.
* Water changes; change water and improve the Redox Potential in so doing, this may only be a temporary fix though.
* Increase electrolytes and calcium; again a minor aid, but one that can and will help, epecially if your Redox is off.
