How does a submersible aquarium heater work? Mine is not working?
I am probably goign to seem like a complete idiot asking this, but I just bought a theo 300w heater from amazon for my 55 gallon tank. The isntructions state it auto shuts off when its not in the water and states that this is a fully submersible heater.
However, I am a bit paranoid here. My heater is not working, the light never coems on and the water is still cold. I think that maybe I am supposed to place the heater fully under the water, however how can this be with an electrical cord? This seems dangerous to me and I would like to know from someone that has a submersible heater if this is what I am supposed to do. Please help
I have 2 Ebo Jager submersible heaters – yes you can put them fully under water – cord included, as they are completely sealed and self contained.
None submersible heaters have a gap at the top where the cord enters the heater unit – if you were to submerse one of this it would get all the electrics wet and cause a short (or worse).
The only thing you need to be sure of when using any heaters in aquaria is to leave a ‘drip loop’, where the cord loops down once, lower than your socket (http://www.bestfish.com/tips/031998.html).
